Yes friends, Spring is in full swing on the east coast. From sunshine to rain, crosswalks full of puddles, flowers blooming, then freezing over, blooming again, and even some thunder and lightening.
Along with Spring renewal comes the Spring cleaning. Dusting our lives off, decluttering and lightening up our material load. But what about internal cleaning? I know I feel like I could use a little internal dusting myself. So for the past two months I have been drawn to articles dealing with spring detoxing.
Our bodies follow their own inner seasonal cleansing. As the days become longer, our inner clocks adjust to more hours of daylight. As the temperatures rise, we begin to detox more through our sweat and we naturally crave lighter, less warming foods.
So for the first time ever this spring, I jumped on the detox bandwagon and tried some detox/cleansing of my own! And sharing means caring so here we go!
For the month of March I detoxed from sugar. That’s right, no sugar AT ALL!
Generally, I stay away from sugar as much as possible. But, I am also a happy go lucky plant based girl and finding the perfect vegan brownie can be quite the adventure and downright obligation if you ask me. So staying away from sugar can be a challenge!
March’s sugar detox created space for feeling blissfully calm and centered by the start of April. It”s amazing what detoxing from sugar can do for your nerves and stress levels. Gone were the emotionally charged highs and lows. I was left with pure and balanced happiness. If you would like to attempt a sugar detox, be sure to do some research so you that you feel prepared with the types of symptoms you may experience. Nothing too extreme I promise! (Maybe I will post about sugar detox symptoms…stay tuned…)
I could have stopped my internal dusting at this point, but I love wellness warrior play!
During the first week of April, I attempted my first ever one day juice cleanse. Now before you start thinking how hard core I am, just know that I did a ONE DAY CLEANSE. I love food. I love grocery shopping, cooking and eating delicious wholesome food from the earth. The thought of drinking juice all day for 5 or even 3 days is kind of scary for me. Since going vegan two years ago, my digestion has never been better and I rarely experience stomach blues. But, I figured in the true spirit of spring cleaning, I would attempt to cleanse my body even more, swallow my apprehension and finally attempt a juice cleanse.
And wouldn’t you know it, Organic Avenue was having a one day juice cleanse sale! 5 juices and 1 chlorophyl booster shot for $50. I chose a day to cleanse where I knew I would be at work until 9pm so that I would not be tempted to raid my fridge
The 5 juices:
coconut water, orange juice, green juice, veggie vibrance juice and a raw avocado blended soup.
YUMMMMMMMMMMMM
Seriously, it was pretty great! At no point did I feel hungry. Strangely full yet unsatisfied? Yes. An intense urge to chew something? Absolutely. Energy to make it through the day smiling? Yes!!!!
I woke up the next day feeling rested and for lack of a better word, cleansed.
Next up for the month of May will be a detox cleanse from Raw Green Organics. I just purchased the 14 day detox package online and as soon as it arrives, I will start replacing one meal a day with a detox smoothie for 14 days. Updates to come soon!
One of my brothers and his amazing wife are in the middle of a 10 day plant based food cleanse as well and I am hoping for a guest post from them very soon!
So if anyone reading this feels like everyone around them is going on some sort of cleanse and/or detox, I feel you, it is everywhere. If you would like to flirt with juicing or cleansing, just know that you do not even need to do a full day to get a taste for the benefits. Even replacing one meal a day with one-two juices will help cleanse the toxins out of your amazing body.
What are your thoughts on cleansing/detoxing?
Any positive and/or negative experiences?
please do share

the idea of a sugar detox calls to me, but i find it so scary. can you elaborate on it? are you allowed to eat fruit? i would be lost without a piece of fruit a day.
also, wine! i suppose i would have to give up wine…. what’s the minimum amount of time i could detox from sugar and get a result? 2 weeks?
i’m the opposite of hard core!
I am working on a sugar detox post right now so I will go into details for sure!
I can quickly tell you though that eating fruit is absolutely swell while detoxing from sugar. It’s best not to have more than one fruit a day while detoxing but you can absolutely keep eating fruit!
Tali
Talush, I started my detox by avoiding croissants, replacing them with bananas and grapefruit juice. Hope that counts for something
Ima,
Of course that counts! Bananas are very healthy for you and can help ease you off sugar as they have a naturally high sugar content. Fruit is always better than sugar because your body is processing the whole banana which includes loads of nutrients as well.
love,Tali
Have gone 7 days without solid food 2xs beorfe. 6 days of drinking vegetable and fruit juices, herbs, and powerful colon cleanses (a concoction containing black walnut, senna leaf powder, french clay, and stuff like that). Also did colonics once a day and had some scary stuff come out me like gall stones, parasites (tape worms), and undigested meat. After, I could sleep and awake easily, my allergies went away, I was more patient, the bags under my eyes disappeared, regular bowel movements.
Omar,
wow, that sounds like an intense process, must feel amazing to have cleansed so deeply! Thank you for sharing your experience and the positive outcomes. Amazing!
Tali
Tali!
I did a juice cleanse(fast) for about a week. I remember feeling so energized and my skin felt amazing (especially since ALL I’ve had in my system was pure juice)! Would love to hear your thoughts on juice fasts/cleanses?
Hi Mika,
your juice cleanse sounds amazing and would love to hear all about it! I am trying to gather more info on all the different types of juice cleanses and doing mini interviews on people’s reactions to the process of juice fasting. Can I email you with a few questions about your juice cleanse experience? It might be time for us to collaborate
much love,
Tali
